Persistence…
thursday 3/26…after 90 minutes on the bike and in advance of marathon # 55
Persistence…
It’s
President Obama's new theme…and it got me thinking and re-confirming my
own belief in the concept, validated most recently by the following
examples:
Networking: an effort to reach the President of an influential B&B association, all through cold calling efforts was not paying off, but, with time, the thought came to me to reach out to a colleague, who indeed DID have familiarity with the desired contact – he made the call and yesterday, she and I had a very productive meeting and lunch…
Change: just when we think “oh this situation will never change” sure enough it does. After working with a client very regularly for a year, about 5 years ago…despite repeated contact during this time, very limited replies. A burst of boldness prompted a call this week, past the usual suspects in middle management and straight to the President, who took the call, recalled me favorably and set an appointment for he and I and his SVP of Ops to meet in 3 weeks…
The Economy: all recessions end..and so will this one; yet many I talk to are trying to ‘save their way to success.’ It never works. For those who depend on the right balance of repeat and new business (and that includes all of us, right?) there is a need to stay the course, even go outside the course, but certainly NOT cut back on all the courses, or those who are Persistent will have taken your place by the time you get back on course.
The TIPS of this note:
>> check yourself and your actions – have you cut back too drastically? or are you staying prudently Persistent?
>>
check your history – are you still operating your various forms of
contact, marketing, prospecting, training or have you gotten away from
some proven practices?
Trust me on this one – you don’t stay in business nor run 55 marathons if you don’t find the right pace of Persistence.
Onward and INNward,
Jim
